Privacy
You upload your own schoolwork here. This is where it goes, who sees it, and how to get it back out.
What we store
Your name, email address and birth year. The year is stored because Dutch law sets the age at which somebody can agree to a service like this at sixteen, so we have to know which side of that line you are on. We do not ask for a full date of birth, because the year is enough to answer the question.
The material you upload, as text. The original file is not kept — only the readable text taken out of it, which is what everything else works from.
The questions generated from your material, your answers to them, and the mastery scores worked out from those answers.
Who processes it, and where
Three companies see part of your material. Nobody else does, and it is never sold or shared with advertisers.
- Supabase (Ireland, EU)
- Stores your account, material, questions and progress.
- Anthropic (United States)
- Reads uploaded material to work out what it covers, and writes the first questions of a study set. Under their API terms, material sent this way is not used to train their models.
- DeepSeek (China)
- Writes the remaining practice questions from your material. Part of what you upload is therefore processed outside the European Economic Area, where data protection law differs from the EU's. If that is not acceptable to you, do not upload material you consider sensitive.
What we never do
Your material is not used to train any public model, ours or anyone else's.
We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising.
A parent following your progress sees mastery per subject, how much you have practised and which topics are still hard. They never see your questions or your answers — not which ones you got wrong, and not what you typed.
How long we keep it
Your material and progress stay until you delete them or close your account. Deleting a study set removes its questions and answers with it. Closing your account removes everything, including anything a parent could see.
Email confirmation and password reset links are deleted once used, and expire on their own within two days and one hour respectively.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of everything we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to hallo@studyworld.app and you will get an answer within a month, usually much sooner.
If you are under sixteen, a parent or guardian has to agree before you can use StudyWorld, and they can withdraw that agreement at any time.
